- Professional sailing team challenging for the 35th America's Cup
PRESS RELEASE (May 19, 2016) - Artemis Racing to work with Immunotec
Artemis Racing has a multinational crew comprising some of the most successful and respected sailors and designers in the world.
Artemis Racing is a professional sailing team founded in 2006 by successful businessman and sailor, Torbjörn Törnqvist. The early years saw the Team win the MedCup circuit, the TP52 World Championship and upon entering the RC44 Championship, Artemis Racing went on to win the fleet racing in 2009 and the World title in 2011.
Artemis Racing entered their first America's Cup Qualifier in 2013, where they made it to the semifinals but was knocked out by the Italian challenger Luna Rossa. At the press conference following the conclusion of the LVC Semi-Final Team Principal Torbjörn Törnqvist stated that the 34th America's Cup was Artemis Racing's first challenge, but not the last.
On August 19, 2014 Artemis Racing announced its challenge for the 35th America's Cup and in December, 2014 it was announced that the qualifier and the final will be hosted in the Great Sound in Bermuda in May 2017. Artemis Racing started working towards the goal of winning the 35th Americas Cup from their base in Alameda, California but moved to their new base on Morgan's Point in Bermuda in January 2016.
The team has currently built two prototype boats and became the first challenger to launch two-boat testing in Bermuda in the beginning of February this year (2016). The two boats create the opportunity for valuable match racing training in the America's Cup venue, and it allows the team to work on design development and comparisons inside the team.
The base on Morgan's Point provides the team with the best possible preparations for the 35th America's Cup and ever since the Team moved in the local community has been more than welcoming towards the team and their campaign towards 2017.
- Winners of Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series Bermuda 2015
- 11 Olympic medals within the team
- 6 Olympic Champions
- 14 America's Cup victories within the team
"I’m excited about this collaboration with Immunotec. Immunotec’s 40-year legacy of research and publications in scientific journals, combined with the recent granting of the performance claim from Health Canada and the Informed Choice Program on Immunocal® were critical considerations in our decision.
The physiological demands of sailing the present America’s Cup foiling catamarans is immense and keeping the guys healthy and optimising recovery is crucially important, and that’s where I see Immunotec playing a major role with their products and also their clinical experts in this field."
– Pete Cunningham, Artemis Racing Exercise Physiologist
"America’s Cup sailing represents the pinnacle of the sport. It is a privilege for us to be involved with this program. Considering the physiological strain to which these sailors will be subjected, Immunocal® and Immunocal Platinum® will play an important role in helping them to maintain peak performance over the course of the program."
– John Molson, Vice-President, Research and Development
